Overview

Are you looking for a part‑time job that is flexible and fun? Portland Parks & Recreation is hiring for the Arts, Culture, and Special Events Division. This application does not cover summer programming jobs; summer positions will be posted in March.

We are collecting names of people who are interested in future part‑time or seasonal work with Portland Parks. This does not mean there is a job open right now, but we’ll contact you if a role is available.

Pay
  • Recreation Associate (Attendant, Customer Service Representative):
    • Training pay: $19.99 for all Recreation Associate jobs.
    • Base pay: $19.99 – $23.33 (entry $19.99).
  • Parks Activities Specialist (Instructor I, Instructor II, Specialized Arts Instructor):
    • Training pay: $19.04 for all Parks Activities Specialist jobs.
    • Assistant Instructor: $19.04 – $22.21 (entry $19.04).
    • General Instructor: $21.16 – $28.03 (entry $21.16 – $24.33).
    • Specialized Arts Instructor: $31.73 – $40.19 (entry $31.73 – $37.03).
Union Status
  • Recreation Associates are represented by LiUNA Local 483 – Recreation. Entry‑level pay applies. View the labor agreement.
  • Parks Activities Specialists are not represented by a union.
Job Summary

The Community Music Center (CMC) and the Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) partner with Portland Parks & Recreation’s Arts, Culture, and Special Events division to offer arts education to all ages and backgrounds.

  • Job Type: Casual, part‑time (various positions).
  • Schedule: Flexible hours – day, evening, weekend, or holiday. Hours may vary each week.
  • Locations: Multiple sites across Portland; applicants may select multiple locations.

Qualifications for All Positions

Additional Qualifications for Specialized Arts Instructors
  • Minimum of 500 hours of prior teaching experience for the discipline(s) applied.
  • Significant professional learning and/or development, e.g.,
    • An accredited degree or certificate in a specialized art form(s)
    • Long‑term self‑led practice of the art form(s), including teaching or continued education
Hiring Process
  • Apply online between January 19, 2026 and April 26, 2026.
  • Review of applications for minimum qualification match.
  • Qualified candidates placed on a talent‑pool list.
  • Interview invitations issued as positions open.
  • Job offers made after interviews.
  • Start date scheduled after all hiring conditions met.
  • Additional Information
    • Attendant – Event Host: Facilitate event setup/cleanup, manage equipment, open and secure facilities, maintain safety and code of conduct. Shift ranges: weekday/weekend mornings, afternoons, evenings.

      Location:

      CMC.
    • Customer Service Representative: Provide quality service on site and by phone at PP&R centers, pools, parks, outreach events, schools, etc. Assist with registrations, concessions, payments, clerical support, and facility maintenance. Shift ranges: weekday/weekend mornings, afternoons, evenings. Locations: CMC, MAC.
    • Instructor Roles (Parks Activities Specialists): Create safe, welcoming learning spaces; develop and teach lessons; maintain facilities; manage paperwork. Age requirements:
      Instructor I – 16+, Instructor II & Specialized Arts – 18+. Pay ranges as listed above. Shift times: all operating hours. Locations: CMC (music only), MAC (all arts), MAC Community Engagement sites.
