Portland Community College is accepting applications for Microbiology Part‑Time Faculty assignments. Biology courses are taught at all four main PCC campuses.
Position OverviewAs a part‑time faculty member, you will design and deliver undergraduate biology courses, including lectures and laboratory sessions. You will work with the Biology Department to maintain high teaching quality and contribute to the college’s educational mission.
Instructor Qualifications- Master’s degree in Biology
- OR Master’s degree in a related area AND 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in Biology
Degrees in the following areas are considered equivalent to a Master’s in Biology:
Anatomy, Animal Behavior, Animal Sciences, Botany, Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine (DC), Doctor of Dental Science (DDS or DMD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Ecology, Education/Science Education (assuming 30 graduate credits in any of the other subjects), Entomology, ESR (Environmental Science and Resources), Evolution/Evolutionary Biology, Fisheries, Forestry, Genetics, Marine Biology, Medical Doctor (MD), Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Naturopathic Doctor (ND), Physiology, Plant Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Zoology.
Approval
A part‑time instructor without a Master’s or Doctorate may be approved if they have 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area and are actively pursuing the degree, which will be awarded within six months of hire. Approval is affirmed by a letter from the graduate advisor.

Eligible part‑time faculty may receive certain benefits, such as Oregon Sick Leave and retirement savings plans. New hires generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule. Hourly rates are determined by the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).
