About the School:

Meriwether Lewis K-5 Elementary School is located in the Woodstock neighborhood of Southeast Portland. Lewis sits on a parcel of land where orchards and gardens grew. The legacy of this is reflected in the various garden spaces  Lewis staff and community bring their mission for every student to reality by nurturing personal growth within a supportive community and working to encourage curiosity, seek innovation, and embrace inclusion.

Lewis is committed to a strong literacy and mathematics program. Specialized support in reading and math are provided in addition to regular classroom instruction. Programs include weekly music classes, Physical Education, Art, Library, and Reed College Science partnership.

Lewis has an active PTA that helps sponsor and support many school wide activities. The Lewis staff are committed to a high level of parent involvement and are proud of the high level of parent participation and support. Lastly, Lewis Elementary School has been acknowledged with an Oregon Sustainable School Award for their work in the area of Healthy, Safe Students and Staff.

Basic Function:

Under administrative direction, provide instructional leadership for an Elementary, Middle, PK-8 or High school campus under administrative direction. Establish an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest performing students; supervise and support professional educators in strengthening their instructional practices; create a community of continuous learning for all staff and students;

foster a culture of high expectation, providing every student with equitable access to high quality and culturally relevant instruction; support and implement the District's Racial Equity Policy; build strong partnerships with families and community; create a safe, welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served; manage operational, technical, and school activities and staff to promote student growth.
