Job Description

Location: Centennial High School

Job Purpose Statement: The School to Career Specialist is for the purpose of providing an educational and career planning resource for students, staff and community. The School to Career Specialist prepares and supports students in the use of demanding career‑related technical and academic knowledge and skills needed for success in high school, college and in highly skilled careers. The School to Career Specialist will adapt and build Career Center curriculum/programming with an equity and culturally relevant lens, aligned with the Comprehensive School Counseling Program requirements.

Focus in these areas is an integral component of the school’s total academic vision, committed to the education and development of each student.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Work with students, school counselors, school staff, and community stakeholders to implement relevant career‑related learning opportunities and to successfully transition students to meet their postsecondary goals.
  • Organize and facilitate educational and career guidance activities as outlined in the District’s comprehensive School Counseling Programs and career development curriculum.
  • Follow the legal and ethical standards and guidelines of the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) and Perkins grant reporting guidelines.
  • Develop and implement instructional activities that are associated with grade level career development curriculum.
  • Connect students in their focused programs of study to businesses and industry through career related learning experiences.
  • Act as a resource for students in progressing through a program of study in a non‑duplicative manner.
  • Recruit, train and manage career center volunteers and/or community partners to assist students with postsecondary planning.
  • Demonstrate connections between career/career clusters and application of core academic skills.
  • Encourage students to explore a wide range of occupations and assist individual students, groups and/or families with postsecondary planning.
  • Coordinate and schedule college, trade and technical visitations, coordinate and maintain student career center, coordinate planning and facilitating community career and college information events.
  • Provide staff training for career development instruction as needed.
  • Visit classrooms and individually teach current resume building and interview techniques.
  • Coordinate and participate in Portland area college and career events, assist counselors and case managers with student transition services.
  • Assist with the management of student career portfolios and career development credit.
  • Establish and supervise volunteers in the College and Career Center.
  • Provide letters of recommendation, assist with job seeking skills.
  • Coordinate and communicate scholarship and financial aid information.
  • Collect data, plan and analyze the comprehensive guidance program.
  • Differentiated opportunity and access to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain the job posting board (physical/virtual) for Centennial High School.

  • Coordinate, grade and audit student Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE’s), Personalized Learning (PL), Work/Volunteer Partnership credits, and Work Based Learning (WBL) for all students.
  • Work as the Military liaison for Centennial High School.
  • Coordinate Centennial High School AP Testing.
  • Coordinate PSAT/SAT for Centennial schools.
  • Become familiar with and uphold the enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
