Job Summary
The University of Portland located in Portland, Oregon, USA invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Shiley School of Engineering to begin January 4, 2027 or August 15, 2027.
The University of Portland is a primarily undergraduate institution comprising four professional schools and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), which houses our strong liberal arts Core Curriculum, required of all students. The University Core provides students in all disciplines a unifying set of experiences and promotes engagement with the Six Core Habits of Heart and Mind, which include "Global & Historical Consciousness" and "Diversity & the Common Good."
The Shiley School of Engineering (SSOE) prepares engineers and computer scientists to solve technical problems that affect society. The Shiley School offers undergraduate degrees in civil and environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineering, as well as computer science. Coursework and projects emphasize experiential learning, teamwork, experimentation, and innovation integrated with theory, analysis, and design to prepare students to become technological leaders in the 21st century.
Tenure-track faculty are responsible for maintaining teaching obligations, participation in student advising, service on committees in the School as well as the greater University, involvement in professional associations, and public service. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a habit of scholarship, which requires dissemination within their discipline in various venues.
Core Duties
University of Portland faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the School and the University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching, including attention to evidence-based instructional practices, and the potential for productive research in the context of a primarily undergraduate teaching institution. In addition to teaching undergraduate electrical engineering courses, faculty share in teaching engineering service courses such as Engineering Fundamentals and multidisciplinary capstone projects.

Teaching is central to the University's mission, and tenure-track faculty typically teach nine credit hours each semester, reflecting UP's strong commitment to student learning and faculty engagement. Faculty members are expected to:

* Advise undergraduate students and actively participate in the UP campus community.
* Contribute to the Shiley School of Engineering and UP by serving on faculty committees as requested.
Education & Experience
* Required:
Terminal degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
* Required:
Teaching or instructional experience
* Required for appointment at Associate Professor rank:
Achievement of tenure at an accredited college or university

Experience teaching undergraduate engineering courses
