Job Description

Position Title: Chemistry Teacher – AP Chemistry / AP Physics Teacher

School: Parkrose High School, Portland, Oregon

School Year:

Salary Range: $52,278 - $101,991 (DOE)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Days: 192 days per year

Starting Date: Immediately

Overview: The position of “Teacher” performs under the supervision of a principal or other designated supervisor and has responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students. Teachers facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills, including individual skill development, expansion of knowledge, and development of ability to reason. The classroom teacher functions in accordance with District-approved curriculum, policies, regulations, and performance standards.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Use State and District adopted curriculum and goals.
  • Identify the needs of groups and individuals and continuously assess abilities.
  • Motivate students and communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Promote high levels of achievement relative to individual student abilities.
  • Apply research-based principles of effective instruction.
  • Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.
  • Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned outcomes and emphasize student involvement.
  • Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly.
  • Document progress and provide timely, accurate feedback.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Create and enforce written rules of classroom behavior.
  • Communicate course goals and academic expectations.
  • Ensure the health and safety of students in all instructional settings.
  • Supervise students inside and outside the classroom and report incidents as required.
Other Job Functions
  • Direct educational assistants, volunteers, and student aides to provide an effective class program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in District-sponsored in-service offerings and PLC meetings.
  • Assist other teachers with curriculum implementation.
Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon teaching certificate with endorsement from the TSPC.
  • Ability to prepare effectively for class and develop grading standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to document student progress.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, and appropriate instructional subjects.
  • Multicultural competency.
Preferred
  • Bilingual (including English).
  • Additional endorsement in ESOL or Reading.
  • Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies certification.
  • RTI certification.
  • Sheltered Instruction/SIOP experience.
  • Differentiated Instruction experience.
  • Professional Learning Communities participation.
  • Experience with diverse students.
License & Certifications
  • Oregon Department of Education – Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost to employee).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain.
