Position Overview
Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for a Part‑Time Faculty Interest Pool in ASL / English Interpreting. This is not a specific open position; applicants may be considered for substitute and full‑term class assignments as needs arise during the Academic Year.
ResponsibilitiesPart‑time faculty will teach courses in sign language interpretation and American Sign Language, including but not limited to ITP 180, 279, 281, 283, 284, 285, 267, 275, 273, 274, 275, 279, 281, 268, 268, 180, 279, 280. Responsibilities include delivering lectures and labs, developing course materials, assessing students, and contributing to curriculum development. Faculty may also participate in related instruction and mentorship activities within the program.
Qualifications- Master’s Degree in Interpreting, Interpreter Education, Intercultural Relations, Deaf Education, Linguistics, or a related field; or AAS/BA in Sign Language Interpretation with RID Certification.
- Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CSC, CI/CT, NIC) or ASLTA certification.
- Current membership in the Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT).
- Three years of experience teaching interpreting or American Sign Language in credit courses at the college level.
- Native or near‑native ASL proficiency, to be assessed through a proficiency interview.
- Preferred: experience coordinating an academic program, working with part‑time faculty, developing curriculum, mentoring interpreters, and background in the Deaf community.
PCC currently limits employment to individuals residing in Oregon or Washington. Employment offers are contingent upon establishing residence in either state.
