The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Playschool Lead Teacher to join our Youth Programs team. The lead, under the supervision of the Youth Programs Manager, is responsible for developing and implementing an age‑appropriate educational program for an assigned class of children, 3 years of age. The curriculum must meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of both individual children and the group.
This role also provides supervision of assistant teachers, including assigning daily tasks, facilitating weekly meetings, and completing annual performance reviews.
Status: Full-Time, Year-Round
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Flexible planning hours)
- Teach classes of up to 20 children (age
3) - Create a warm, safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment
- Plan and implement weekly curriculum (subject to approval) that supports physical, mental, and social development
- Organize activities such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips
- Publish weekly family newsletters and updates via Playschool Facebook page
- Greet parents and children daily and track attendance accurately
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding child development and progress
- Identify developmental or health concerns and collaborate with management and families
- Support smooth child transitions into the classroom environment
- Assist with hygiene needs (toileting, diapering) per department procedures
- Participate in and help coordinate Playschool events (e.g., Open House, Conferences, Concerts, Field Day)
- Apply behavior management techniques and enforce safety standards
- Track and manage classroom supply budget
- Participate in continuing education (minimum 16 hours annually, e.g., OAEYC)
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or minimum two years of experience as a preschool lead teacher preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- First Aid/CPR certification and Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to build effective relationships with children, parents, and staff
- Competence, sound judgment, and professionalism in working with children and families
Must pass a Multnomah Athletic Club background check.
