Assistant Principal

Role Characteristics:

Essential Job Functions
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Support the Principal in implementing the school's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned staff members and support professional growth through coaching, feedback, and collaboration.
  • Assist in monitoring instructional practices, student achievement, and school improvement efforts.
  • Support curriculum implementation and instructional initiatives aligned with district priorities.
Student Support Services
  • Oversee and coordinate Section 504 processes, including facilitating meetings, ensuring compliance, maintaining documentation, and partnering with families and staff to support student accommodations.
  • Collaborate with special education staff and administrators to support effective implementation of special education services and compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Participate in and support meetings related to special education, student services, intervention planning, and student support.
  • Support the Principal in the oversight and implementation of the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including intervention systems, progress monitoring, data analysis, and data-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with counselors, learning specialists, teachers, and support staff to ensure students receive appropriate academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports.
School Culture and Climate
  • Facilitate communication among staff, students, families, and community members to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
  • Support school-wide behavior systems, restorative practices, and positive school climate initiatives.
  • Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior and support students in developing successful interpersonal and self-management skills.
  • Assist with student discipline and behavior support in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Operations and School Management
  • Support the school's day-to-day operations and help maintain a safe, efficient, and positive learning environment.
  • Assist with master scheduling, school-wide event planning, and coordination of programs, activities, and special events.
  • Oversee assigned operational functions, including supervision, safety procedures, facilities coordination, and special projects.
  • Facilitate and attend meetings to coordinate initiatives, gather feedback, and ensure implementation of school and district goals.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, presentations, and other documentation as needed.
  • Attend district and community meetings as assigned.
  • Support the Principal in maintaining overall school site operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
  • Oregon Administrative License or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
  • Administrative leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MTSS, Section 504 processes, special education collaboration, student behavior systems, and instructional leadership.
  • Experience facilitating teams, leading change initiatives, and building positive relationships with students, families, and staff preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Knowledge of instructional best practices, school improvement processes, and student support systems.
  • Ability to analyze and utilize data to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Knowledge of Oregon education law, district policy, Section 504 requirements, and special education procedures.
