The Education Assistant serves as the client’s main support as they integrate into the Portland Public School system. This position completes education assessments and progress reports on a regular basis, and acts as a liaison for the client and school staff (counselors, teachers, etc.). They meet regularly with the youth at our program to connect them with educational resources, help with homework, and share updates on their grades.
They also provide offsite support to the youth in the classroom.
- Work with teachers to provide educational support and behavioral management in the classrooms.
- Complete ongoing progress reports and upload to the client’s electronic record.
- Complete the Education Assessment within 72 hours of the client’s admission to the program and upload to the client’s electronic record.
- Contract client’s previous facilities/educational institutions for transferable credits.
- Complete a “Client Education Discharge Letter” prior to youth leaving the program.
- Assist in group outings and field trips with the clients.
- Complete incident reports as required and document in a timely manner.
- Participate in daily shift change meetings and regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Assist in the milieu during periods of high activity, as needed.
- Work effectively with external representatives and/or community members to ensure cooperative and supportive working relations and coordination of client services.
- Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team (case management, clinical, education, medical, etc.).
- Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.
- Participate in staff development, in‑services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma‑informed behavioral healthcare organization.

- High school diploma required.
- 1 year experience working with youth.
- Bi‑lingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal strongly preferred. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish.
- Attained age 21 years or older before first day of employment in position.
- Experience working in a classroom or educational setting.
- Blood borne Pathogens training required on the first day of employment.
- CPR/SFA obtained within 30 days of employment and kept current.
