General Chemistry Workshop Leader - Morton

Hours:
Approx. 2.5 hours per week per workshop section assigned (~32 hours each semester).
Hourly Wage: Portland Metro Minimum Wage ($16.80/hour).
Job Summary: The General Chemistry Workshop Leader will report to Dr. Morton, the instructor of the course. The workshop leader will facilitate a workshop section conducted through Peer‑Led Team Learning. The workshop leader is also responsible for preparing the workshop activity so they can assist students as they complete the activity in groups, and for attending a weekly meeting with Dr.
Morton. The course instructor will inform the workshop leader of where they are performing well and of any performance deficiencies. A workshop leader who is not meeting the communicated expectations may be dismissed and replaced with another qualified applicant at any time during the semester for which they are hired.
This posting is specifically for candidates available in Fall 2025 for the following workshop time:
- Tuesdays, 5:40–7:05 pm

Core Duties- Facilitate a workshop in which students work through an activity provided by the instructor.
- Answer student questions related to the activity and underlying chemistry concepts.
- Actively guide students through problem solving and concept discussions.
- Grade homework assignments as detailed by the instructor.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of CHM 207 with a grade of B or higher.
- For CHM 208 workshop leader, successful completion of CHM 208 with a grade of B or higher.
- Good technical and people skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of underlying chemistry concepts.
- Chemistry or Biochemistry major.
- Former student in Dr. Morton’s class.
- Federal Work Study in financial aid package.
