JOB SUMMARY

The Extension Private Lesson Teacher provides individualized, high‑quality instruction to students in areas such as music, language, and art. Lessons are designed to support each student’s growth, skill development, and personal interests through consistent, one‑on‑one or small group instruction.

This role is part of Oregon Episcopal School’s Extension program and contributes to a robust after‑school experience for PreK–8th grade students. Private Lesson Teachers are selected through a rigorous hiring process and are expected to demonstrate excellence in both their craft and their teaching practice. The successful candidate brings strong organizational skills, clear communication, and an engaging, student‑centered approach. They collaborate closely with the Extension team to ensure alignment with program policies, family communication, and student schedules.

SCHEDULE

Monday–Friday, variable after‑school hours

Lessons occur on a consistent weekly schedule throughout the school year

Schedule determined in coordination with the Extension Office

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Instruction & Student Experience

Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate private lessons (30, 45, or 60 minutes)

Plan and prepare individualized lessons based on student ability, goals, and progress

Foster student growth through skill‑building, encouragement, and constructive feedback

Encourage practice habits and connection to learning outside of lesson time

Program Coordination & Scheduling

Maintain a consistent weekly lesson schedule for each student

Coordinate with the Extension Office for student enrollment and scheduling accuracy

Allow for appropriate transition time between lessons

Teach only currently enrolled OES students (or approved siblings, if space allows)

Communication

Communicate regularly and clearly with families about student progress, goals, and assignments

Be available briefly at the end of lessons to connect with families when appropriate

Notify families directly of any schedule changes, absences, or adjustments

Uphold program expectations around attendance and consistency

Track and communicate student absences (excused and unexcused)

Collaborate with the Extension Office regarding rescheduling or ongoing attendance concerns

Arrange for rescheduling or a substitute in the event of instructor absence when possible

Program Implementation & Compliance

Follow all OES policies and Extension program procedures

Ensure student safety and supervision at all times

Teach only in designated campus locations (e.g., Farris Hall/EC3, Chapel)

Support accurate billing by maintaining reliable lesson records

Partner with Extension staff if students are not picked up on time
