Part‑Time Faculty Interest Pool – Humanities
Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for part‑time faculty assignments in Humanities. The department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part‑time faculty. This is not a specific open position but a pool for substitute and full‑term class assignments during the academic year.
Eligibility & ApplicationThe pool is limited to individuals who can establish residence in Oregon or Washington. Applicants requiring reasonable accommodation for the hiring process should contact the Talent Acquisition Team. Applicants will be asked to list current PCC courses that they would be able to teach. All applications are considered on a rolling basis and may be eligible for substitute assignments as well as full‑term assignments.
InstructorQualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Humanities, History, Literature, Religious Studies, Art History, Music, Philosophy, Culture Studies or a related field.
- Master’s degree in any field with 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in Humanities.
- Master’s degree in any field with 15 quarter hours of graduate credit in Humanities.
- Experience as lead instructor for at least 4 college‑level Humanities courses.
- Master’s degree in any field with 16‑29 quarter hours of graduate credit in Humanities.
- Experience as lead instructor for at least 2 college‑level Humanities courses.
- For HUM 214 only: any of the above.
- For HUM 221 only: any of the above.
- Certified as a Phi Theta Kappa leadership development studies instructor (if applicable).
Other degree titles beyond this list may be considered if they meet the topic requirements. The Division Dean, in consultation with the subject area chair, will recommend eligibility.
Provisional approval may be granted to a part‑time instructor without a master’s or doctorate if they have 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area, are actively pursuing the degree, and are expected to receive the degree within six months of hire. A letter from the advisor will be required.
Benefits and CompensationPart‑time faculty are generally hired at Step 1 of the salary schedule. Hourly rates are determined based on the type of course taught (lecture, lab, or lecture/lab). Eligible employees may receive Oregon sick leave and retirement savings plans.
