Job DescriptionMedia Assistant III – Shaver Elementary School for the 2026‑2027 school year.
Rate: $19.54–$25.72 per hour DOE;
Job Classification J, PLUS, employer‑paid retirement, and generous benefits package
Hours: 35 hours per week; 174 days (adjusted for furlough days)

Overview: The Media Assistant III maintains the media center, supports library collections, implements age‑appropriate programs, and selects materials to support classroom instruction. The role utilizes media and computer technology, educates students on library resources, and instructs staff on audiovisual equipment and computers. The position supports technology for students and staff in collaboration with the technology facilitator and/or principal.
Job Requirements- Prior media‑related experience, including elementary‑level instruction
- Regular attendance
- Two (2) years of postsecondary study in an academic program, or an associate’s (or higher) degree, or a passing score on a state or local academic assessment measuring skills needed to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction when available
- Multicultural competency
- May require supplementary coursework and additional training
- Knowledge of basic computer coding/programming
- Proficiency operating standard media equipment, including computer applications
- Strong written and verbal English communication, with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Detailed and accurate record‑keeping
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and material processing
- Maintenance of equipment such as overhead projectors, VCRs, printers, and computers
- Ability to prepare materials for library use, perform semi‑skilled repair and maintenance on equipment, and orient others in equipment operations
- Effective relationship building with colleagues, students, and the community
Preferred
- Bilingual language skills
- Experience working with diverse student populations
License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance; cost to employee: $12.50 for fingerprints; $75.00 for criminal background check (one‑time payroll deduction)
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain

Reports to:
Building Principal
- Assist less experienced employees and/or vendors to ensure assignments are completed appropriately
- Conduct classes in a variety of formats to promote the use and employment of literature/media
- Coordinate requests for technical support and equipment to ensure availability of audio‑visual materials for instruction
- Distribute and circulate books, materials, and media
- Evaluate audiovisual equipment and software/hardware for repairs and recommendations
- Instruct library volunteers, staff, students, and patrons on the operation of audiovisual equipment, computers, library resources, classification system, card catalog, and material care
- Inventory equipment and materials to document losses and maintain availability
- Prepare equipment and materials for operational use
- Process orders, books, materials, and media for collection maintenance
- Procure equipment and supplies to keep an inventory of audiovisual equipment and computers in operating condition
- Promote library use related to special holidays and seasonal activities to motivate student engagement
- Repair various equipment such as overhead projectors, VCRs, printers, and computers to ensure safe and functional operation
