Summer School Activity Leader - Temporary Position

Temporary SUN Activity Leader

Parklane Elementary

July 27th to August 14th, with additional training and orientations the week of July 20th

Develop and facilitate class activities. The employee will handle programmatic, organizational, and classroom duties and work with the SUN Site Manager, Principal, school staff, and students. Employees are part-time, temporary employees of Metropolitan Family Service.

• Develop and teach engaging, age‑appropriate lessons with ties to academics, recreation and/or the arts during after school hours.
• Supervise groups of 12‑15 students while maintaining school‑appropriate class decorum.
• Supervise groups during daily routines such as meal time, recess, bathroom breaks and class transitions.
• Record and turn in student attendance daily.
• Maintain classroom and school rules to ensure students are safe.
• Communicate frequently with the SUN Site Manager about individual student progress, successes and concerns.
• Maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff and custodians.
• Work within school and agency policies and protect student confidentiality.

• Participants are expected to attend all three weeks; exceptions may be made for illness or other approved events.
• Experience teaching elementary‑aged children and creating lesson plans.
• Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting.
• Independent, self‑motivated, creative and resourceful.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
• Cooperative and able to work as part of a team.
• Willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion.
• Demonstrate excitement, respect and professionalism in all interactions.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm about working in an inclusive environment serving children of all backgrounds and abilities.
• Experience working with groups of elementary‑age children and strong behavior management (MUST).
• At least 18 years of age.
• Legally able to work in the United States (documentation required for I‑9 form).
• Spanish‑speaking skills are a plus.
• Basic English proficiency (reading, writing and speaking).
• All employees must submit a criminal background check.

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm

Summer Term:
July 27th to August 14th, with additional training and orientations the week of July 20th. SUN activities are not held on Centennial School District No‑School or Early Release Days.

$18.00 per hour
