What

You’ll Do and Who We Are Looking For

Portland Community College is accepting applications for a Library Technician position at the Rock Creek campus. We are looking for an individual that is eager to become part of a team focused on providing excellent customer service to a diverse community in an academic Library setting. Some of the core duties of this position include providing customer service at the library’s checkout desk, overseeing and maintaining our library collections, and working closely with other employees to accomplish various library-related tasks.

Additional responsibilities include training, guiding, coaching, and reviewing the work of student and casual employees. Library Technicians are instrumental in helping further the goalsof the Library and College within an inclusive and student-focused environment that cultivates learning, critical thinking, and personal growth. Incumbent may work under minimal supervision. Interpersonal contacts include faculty, staff, students, other libraries, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience working with the public, preferably in a library.
Success Criteria
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in a varied work environment.
  • Strong record of communicating effectively (electronically and in person) with multiple stakeholders in a shared workspace and customer service setting.
  • Experience working in a library setting or similar environment, and utilizing an integrated library system.
  • Experience with Library Public Service policies, process, and procedures (which may include: library technology, Resource Sharing, Course Reserves, or Collection Maintenance).
  • Experience working effectively within a diverse team and work environment.
