Job Description

Overview: The Coach advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher, but never performs supervisory evaluations. Coaches are in place to provide ongoing, embedded, and relevant professional development for teachers.

Job Requirements
  • A valid Oregon teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) is required upon hiring. It is the employee’s responsibility to maintain their license and acquire the necessary credits to renew.

Job Responsibilities
  • Instructs students to improve their academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study
  • Uses state and district adopted curriculum and goals
  • Identifies needs of a group of students and individual students and provides continuous assessment of their ability
  • Motivates students and communicates with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Promotes high levels of achievement relative to individual student abilities
  • Uses techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities
  • Applies research-based principles of effective instruction
  • Organizes instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes
  • Employs teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
  • Selects teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement
  • Assesses students to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration about progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Monitors student learning and adjusts pace accordingly
  • Documents students’ progress and provides timely, accurate feedback and documentation to students, parents, and staff
  • Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective student learning
  • Establishes written rules of classroom behavior and communicates them to all students
  • Enforces written rules for classroom behavior
  • Communicates course goals and academic expectations to students
  • Ensures health and safety of students in all instructional settings
  • Supervises students both in and out of the classroom and reports incidents to maintain personal safety and adherence to Education Code and policies
Other Job Functions
  • Directs educational assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to provide an effective class program and address the needs of individual students
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Participates in district-sponsored in-service offerings, PLC meetings, etc. appropriate to assignment
  • Assists other teachers with curriculum implementation
License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required
  • Oregon Department of Education – Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
    • Cost to the employee: $12.50 for fingerprints; $75.00 for criminal background check (one-time payroll deduction)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain
