PEER Mentors are undergraduate students in the Biology Department who support their fellow students through peer mentoring, guidance, and community-building. Mentors draw from their own academic experiences to help mentees navigate coursework, build confidence, and stay engaged in the major. Through regular check‑ins, resource sharing, and department involvement, PEER Mentors play a key role in promoting student success, connection, and resilience within the Biology program.
CoreDuties
- Meet regularly with assigned mentees (1:1 or in small groups)
- Offer course‑specific advice, study tips, and encouragement
- Help students navigate department resources, events, and opportunities
- Attend monthly mentor check‑ins/trainings
- Collaborate with the PEER team on outreach and events
- Model a positive, inclusive, and supportive attitude
- Other relevant duties as assigned
- Are a Biology major with junior standing or above
- Have completed core Bio classes
- Are friendly, dependable, and a good listener
- Want to make a positive impact in the Bio community
- Can commit ~2–3+ hours/month during the semester
- Experience mentoring, tutoring, or leading student groups
- Knowledge of campus academic support services
- Interest in inclusive teaching and learning
