About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Product Engineer to support our air distribution product lines, including grilles, registers, diffusers, VAVs, fans, louvers, dampers, and related HVAC components. This role is a critical technical resource for our sales team, customers, and consulting engineers—training external engineering and contractor partners as well as internal employees. This role will also aid in ensuring correct product selection, application, and documentation from design through submittal.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical product support for air distribution and ventilation equipment
- Assist with product selection, sizing, and application based on project requirements
- Review plans and specifications; identify compliance issues and alternates
- Prepare and review submittals, schedules, and technical documentation
- Support sales engineers with engineering questions, value engineering, and system solutions
- Interface with consulting engineers, contractors, and internal teams to resolve technical issues
- Stay current on product updates, codes, standards, and competitive offerings
- Assist with lunch and learns and technical product training for internal and external stakeholders
- Diagnose product issues with end user/manufacturer
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC, air distribution, or mechanical construction (manufacturer, rep, or engineer)
- Strong understanding of air distribution systems (GRDs, VAVs, fans, louvers, dampers, life safety products)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specifications
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Clear, professional communication with engineers, contractors and manufacturers
- Proficiency with takeoff and selection software, Microsoft Office Suite, and CRM
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for a manufacturer’s representative or HVAC manufacturer
- Familiarity with a wide variety of air distribution products and their applications
- Engineering degree or technical background
- Experience supporting design-build and plan/spec projects
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position with competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications, plus eligibility for Johnson Barrow’s performance-based bonus program. The company also offers a comprehensive benefits package and reimburses all business travel expenses in accordance with company policy.
