Our client is seeking a career-level Piping Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting complex industrial and commercial facility projects. This role is well-suited for a designer who is ready to work independently, contribute to technically challenging designs, and collaborate closely with engineers and multi‑discipline teams.
The Piping Designer will play a key role in delivering high-quality piping layouts and coordinated 3D models that support construction, operations, and long-term facility performance. This position offers a clear pathway to long‑term employment.
This is a hybrid role requiring two days per week onsite at an approved office location. The preferred location is Portland, OR
, with flexibility for other locations based on candidate alignment and experience.
- Develop complete piping layouts, routing, and model content in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or CADWorx with minimal direction.
- Apply advanced piping design principles including pipe sizing, routing optimization, and multi‑discipline coordination.
- Lead equipment arrangement efforts and incorporate detailed vendor data into piping models and drawings.
- Produce piping plans, sections, isometrics, and details in alignment with project requirements and design standards.
- Review and resolve multi‑discipline comments, clashes, and design issues using model‑based coordination tools.
- Identify scope changes, design impacts, and constructability concerns and communicate them proactively to the project team.
- Support development of person‐hour estimates, task planning, and design sequencing for assigned scope.
- Coordinate with global workshare teams by providing clear task direction, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring consistency and quality.
- Maintain adherence to established design procedures, quality expectations, and project workflows.
- Associate’s degree in Design Technology or a related field, or 2+ years of equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of piping design experience in industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or CADWorx for piping design and 3D modeling.
- Strong understanding of piping specifications, materials, equipment interfaces, and layout fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, vendor drawings, and engineering documentation
. - Ability to work independently with general oversight while managing assigned design tasks.
- Strong communication and coordination skills in a multi‑discipline team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong focus on model accuracy and drawing quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing facilities.
- Working knowledge of pipe stress considerations and how they influence routing and support design.
- Experience with QA/QC workflows
, model health reviews, and specification‑driven design. - Advanced proficiency in Revit or CADWorx
, including family/part development, custom specifications, or data integration. - Prior experience supporting or leading global workshare teams
, including oversight of model consistency and deliverable quality.
