Piping Designer

Location: Portland, OR

Our client is seeking an experienced Piping Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Portland, OR. This role will support high-tech industrial manufacturing facility projects and work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering design team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, coordinate design activities, and support project execution with a strong focus on quality, schedule, and collaboration.

This position may include limited field support activities such as site walks and coordination with construction or client representatives.

• Provide direction and coordination for piping designers and sub-leads to ensure high-quality project execution.
• Manage and monitor delivery schedules, escalating risks or delays to project management as needed.
• Support the piping design team and facilitate resolution of complex design challenges.
• Develop and maintain resource loading forecasts to predict budget burn rate and estimate work remaining.
• Coordinate piping design activities with other disciplines, including Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, and Process Engineering.
• Collaborate with Process and Mechanical Engineers to resolve layout and system design challenges.
• Ensure piping scope is clearly understood, documented, and executed in alignment with project requirements.
• Participate in field support activities, including site walks, as required by project needs.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of industrial and high-tech manufacturing facility projects.

• Motivated, self-starting professional with 5+ years of experience leading small teams or acting as a senior piping designer responsible for a defined scope of work.
• 15+ years of experience in piping layout for process and mechanical equipment preferred.
• Strong experience coordinating with cross-discipline engineering teams to meet project schedules.
• Proficient user of CADWorx 3D and/or Revit

• Experience with process mechanical piping systems; experience with industrial waste and high-purity water systems is a plus.
• Microelectronics or semiconductor facility experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with pipe installation details and pipe support design is a plus.
• Highly organized with strong communication and leadership skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
