Senior Health & Safety Specialist – Portland, OR

Maul Foster and Alongi, Inc
. is seeking a full-time Senior Health and Safety Specialist to join our Portland office and lead our services related to hazardous building materials, including asbestos and lead.

Our ideal candidate is both a technical expert and a trusted advisor. You thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and enjoy helping clients navigate health, safety, and environmental challenges with confidence. In this role, you will design and manage projects, mentor staff, support business development efforts, and work directly with clients on projects requiring senior level expertise.

As a Senior Health & Safety Specialist you will…

Step into a leadership role within our hazardous building materials practice. You will guide projects from early strategy conversations through field assessments, regulatory coordination, and final deliverables, ensuring each phase reflects strong technical judgment and practical execution. Some days may involve reviewing complex reports or refining scopes and budgets, while others may take you into the field to support surveys or provide senior level insight on challenging site conditions.

Clients will look to you as a trusted advisor. You will help them interpret regulatory requirements and navigate them in ways that are clear, practical, and cost effective. When discussions become complex or sensitive, you bring confidence, clarity, and solutions to the table.

Internally, you will collaborate across disciplines, support project managers, and lead multi discipline teams when the project calls for it. You will shape scopes, schedules, and budgets, maintain accountability to project performance, and uphold strong quality control standards in both your work and the work of others.

You will also play an important role in strengthening our team. By mentoring staff conducting hazardous building materials surveys and preparing reports, you will help build technical depth and confidence across the practice. Your leadership will contribute not only to successful projects, but to the continued growth and evolution of MFA’s health and safety services in the region.

To thrive in this role, you will bring…

A bachelor’s or graduate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, science, or a related field, along with at least seven years of relevant experience, including substantial experience providing health and safety services related to hazardous building materials. You have strong technical judgment, sound organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

You hold a current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. You are confident communicating with clients, regulators, and colleagues whether in meetings, in the field, or in written reports. You genuinely enjoy mentoring others. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally to regional project sites are required.
