Platform Engineer, Americas

We’re looking for a curious, rigorous, problem‑hungry platform engineer who codes to build Ashby’s hiring software and the infrastructure that powers it.

I’m Colin, Head of EMEA Engineering. Our infrastructure is scalable, automated, and largely built with code‑as‑infrastructure. As a Platform Engineer (or Site Reliability Engineer) you’ll own projects end‑to‑end, build new capabilities, debug critical systems, and shape how the engineering team interacts with infrastructure.

• Optimize our DSL‑to‑SQL compiler and create developer tools around it.
• Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of customer data.
• Help our developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts, and feature flags, while managing complexity and downtime.
• Define SLOs with the business and implement corresponding SLIs.
• Ensure all communication with external services is resilient, with retries and circuit‑breakers.
• Implement the infrastructure needed for an event‑driven architecture and a data warehouse.

• Favors long‑term engineering solutions over short‑cuts and speaks up for edge cases and future users.
• Committed to teamwork, open to feedback, and eager to grow with others.
• Has built infrastructure for large data volumes and automated provisioning, monitoring, and release processes.
• Versatile across infrastructure updates, security, database tuning, Kubernetes debugging, and front‑end support.

• Unwilling to decide independently on the best engineering routes and expect a manager to make final calls.
• Hates SQL or is resistant to deep data‑driven work.
• Does not want to code; code review and contribution are core to the role.
• Prefers live meetings for best‑practice communication in an async culture.
• Cannot self‑manage projects without prompting from managers.
