Position: Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer - Portland, OR

Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA) is seeking a full‑time entry‑level Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer who is eager to lean into generalist work (civil site development design, brownfield redevelopment, environmental remediation design, and stormwater system and treatment design) and explore the world of consulting. As our Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer, you will have the opportunity to engage in both fieldwork and office tasks, providing a dynamic and enriching experience.

As

a Staff Civil Engineer, you will

Gain invaluable hands‑on experience by balancing both field and office work, ensuring you develop a well‑rounded skill set. You'll play a critical role in construction management and on‑site oversight, ensuring projects meet the highest standards of quality and execution. From CAD design and stormwater modeling to cost estimating and report writing, your technical expertise will grow as you engage with dynamic, real‑world projects.

Imagine working on civil site design for renewable fuel development, in‑water sediment remediation, or marine bulkhead and stormwater treatment designs – projects that make a tangible impact on communities and the environment. You'll collaborate closely with licensed engineers, assist in contract solicitation, and participate in client and regulatory discussions, refining both your technical and communication skills. With potential for 100% fieldwork in the summer, you'll gain immersive, hands‑on experience that sets you apart.

To thrive in this role, you must have
  • BS in civil engineering or environmental engineering.
  • Successfully completed your FE exam with the ability to obtain your Engineer‑In‑Training certification.
  • Interest in working in the consulting environment on projects involving site development design, brownfield redevelopment, environmental remediation design and stormwater system and treatment design.
  • Sound technical capabilities and organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as report writing will be part of your regular tasks.
  • Aptitude for using AutoCAD design software, specifically Civil 3D.
  • Ability to drive and willingness to travel occasionally to regional projects.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including lifting, use of respiratory equipment and other protective gear, and traversing rough terrain.
  • Ability to effectively work as a team member, both individually and collaboratively, delivering a project successfully to a client within the scope, schedule, budget.
  • Interest in infrastructure design, remediation design, hydraulics and hydrology.

Compensation Range

$70,000 to $78,000 per year.
