Job Overview
WSP is seeking an Early Career Geologist for our Redmond, WA or Portland, OR offices. This role involves working with the Earth & Environment Team to provide technical guidance on due diligence, subsurface investigations, geologic mapping, and remediation projects. In the field, you will conduct site explorations, geologic logging, and document site conditions using investigative techniques. In the office, you will generate accurate and concise reports and collaborate with a growing team.
The position mixes office and field work and may require overnight travel.
- Support large, diverse projects with geohazard identification, field reconnaissance, sub‑surface investigations, engineering design, construction support, and hazard monitoring.
- Provide technical support for linear infrastructure construction projects to minimize geologic hazard impacts; prepare recommendation reports with senior participation and review.
- Implement technology in the field (satellite navigation, mobile mapping software, geophysical equipment).
- Support subsurface site investigations including drilling, soil classification, rock coring and logging, and well installation.
- Generate, tabulate, manage, and evaluate investigation‑derived data.
- Work in a mix of office and field environments; the position requires overnight travel and field work as project demands.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute project work.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- B.S. in Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or a closely related discipline.
- 0–1 year or more of related experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills, with leadership ability, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently and within groups.
- Ability to independently tabulate, evaluate, and draw conclusions from assessment data generated from field investigations and site assessments.
- Ability to organize and coordinate field investigations, write and implement Health and Safety Plans, and coordinate field efforts with clients, peers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong computer skills, including Word and Excel for creating letters, reports, and tables.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
- Capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, communication software, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Willingness to work on projects across business sectors, performing a variety of tasks, sometimes on short notice.
- Travel may be required, potentially including boat, small aircraft, helicopter, snow machine, 4‑wheelers, etc.
- Work may involve construction oversight.
- Master’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in geotechnical soil logging, rock core logging, groundwater/surface water sampling, environmental sampling, construction oversight, and data evaluation.
- Enthusiasm for field team engagement.
- A client‑centric mindset and desire to work within a larger team focused on timely, high‑quality service delivery.
- 40‑hour OSHA health and safety training.
- MSHA miner training.
- Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, pLog, or related software.

CompensationExpected Salary: $53,000 – $83,160. WSP reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s protected status.
