Associate Substation Structural Engineer
Leidos Engineering is seeking an Associate Substation Structural Engineer with at least 2 years of experience in utility or utility consulting design engineering. The candidate must have a strong educational background in steel, concrete, geotechnical and foundation design, with experience in substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation, site development, oil spill containment, retaining walls, concrete and masonry control shelters and fire-walls.
The role involves direct design of civil/structural components for bid/construction packages, performing design calculations, creating construction-grade engineering drawings independently under the supervision of a licensed civil engineer, complying with quality control and safe work practices, and ensuring project scope, schedule and budget. Site visits to client substation facilities and occasional travel for meetings are expected.
- Design calculations and construction-grade engineering drawings for substation structures and foundations.
- Apply industry codes and standards under seismic loading conditions.
- Coordinate with design team, clients, and staff.
- Maintain compliance with project scope, schedule and budgeting.
- Conduct site visits and support bid/construction documentation.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil-Structural Engineering with 2+ years of experience, or Master’s with 1+ year of relevant experience.
- EIT preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mathcad.
- Experience with STAAD.Pro, SAP
2000, RISA 3D, FAD, SAFE, SAG
10 and LPile (preferred). - Familiarity with AutoCAD and Micro Station (preferred).
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Team player with ability to communicate with clients and staff.
Preferred location is Portland, OR. If the role is remote, ideally the candidate should reside in either Pacific or Mountain Time Zones.
