Position: Product Engineer II – Brake & Pneumatic Systems (Vehicle Dynamics)

Tasks

Inside the Role As a Product Engineer II within the Vehicle Dynamics organization at DTNA, you will play a key role in the development, release, integration, and lifecycle management of safety-critical brake controls hardware used in commercial vehicles. This role focuses on the integration of mechanical, electrical, and system-level components to meet vehicle performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. You will own component and subsystem design activities, validation planning, and drive technical problem‑solving while working closely with cross‑functional teams including manufacturing, quality, purchasing, validation engineering, and suppliers.

Operating with a high level of independence, this role collaborates closely with senior engineers to align on system‑level decisions and technical direction, while also supporting the development of junior engineers within the team – all within a strong “one team” environment that values collaboration, shared ownership, and collective success.

Salary

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000.00 - $ USD

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Own the design, development, release, and lifecycle management of brake controls hardware within Vehicle Dynamics
  • Lead integration of mechanical, electrical, and control system components to meet vehicle‑level performance and safety requirements
  • Drive technical decision‑making for component and subsystem designs within new and existing vehicle platforms
  • Plan and support validation and verification activities to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements
  • Serve as a technical point of contact across manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier partners on assigned components
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues using structured problem‑solving methodologies
  • Author and review engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, change requests, and technical reports
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, cost optimization, and system robustness initiatives
  • Manage component‑level deliverables, timelines, and risks in support of vehicle programs
  • Provide informal guidance and mentoring to Product Engineer I team members while collaborating with senior engineers on complex system topics, design direction, and technical decision alignment
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering field and 3‑6 years of relevant engineering experience, is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • Experience with component design, integration, and product release processes
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Proven analytical, root‑cause problem‑solving, and organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
  • An attached resume is required
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Experience with brake systems, pneumatic controls, or safety‑critical vehicle systems
  • Familiarity with validation planning, testing, and data analysis
  • Experience with product development lifecycle processes and change management
  • Exposure to cross‑functional collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience with CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, or similar
  • Understanding of vehicle‑level system integration and performance requirements
