Overview

Ashby is a fast‑growing startup that builds all‑in‑one software for recruiting, with notable customers including Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. The company is doubling its engineering team over the next year and seeks an engineering manager to lead and scale a high‑performing team.

Responsibilities
  • Manage 3–5 engineers and hire an additional 3–5 engineers.
  • Provide feedback on product and technical specs to help engineers cut scope or improve quality.
  • Grow engineers to handle large, loosely defined projects with minimal intervention.
  • Jump into the codebase to debug, ship small bug fixes, or improve developer experience.
  • Propose and lead company‑wide initiatives such as improving pull‑request review processes, designing and improving interviews, and improving data generation for demo accounts.
Qualifications
  • Former engineer with a track record of building impressive products.
  • Strong belief in empowering engineers and building minimal process environments.
  • Experience hiring and coaching engineers, and turning individual contributors into high‑performing leaders.
  • Comfortable with coding, staying up‑to‑date on technology, and leading by example.
  • Ambition, courage, and follow‑through to change practices and scale a team.
  • Comfortable with autonomy, ownership, and building tools that accelerate delivery.
First Six Months (high‑level)

The first three months focus on learning Ashby engineering and serving as an IC. Weekly and quarterly reviews calibrate the transition to leadership. The role reports initially to the VP of Engineering.

Compensation
