Duties
- Advising on the Safety and Occupational Health Program for Portland District.
- Assisting project personnel with implementation of their site‑specific Safety and Occupational Health plans and programs.
- Advising on safety requirements related to electrical power house, hydroelectric design, and dam safety.
- Providing technical assistance with regards to handling and/or disposal of hazardous waste and chemicals.
- Auditing worksite safety programs, evaluating effectiveness, identifying gaps, reporting/communicating findings to senior leadership.
- Developing and conducting supervisor/employee‑level Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) training.
- Coordinating Safety and Occupational Health (S0H) training.
- Developing safety regulations, guidance, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Conducting worksite inspections through identification of hazards, developing controls to mitigate hazards, and assisting project personnel with implementation of the controls.
- Reviewing accident prevention plans, design reviews, and safety submittals.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Valid State Driver's License.

Minimum Qualifications
Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes (1) assisting with safety and occupational health inspections; (2) applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures when dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; and/or (3) identifying hazards in an industrial workplace. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS‑09).
Education (OR): Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
