Acorn Engineering, Inc., a Maine-based, 100% employee‑owned civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture firm has a seasonal, summer opportunity for a Field Technician in their Portland office.

Responsibilities include assisting with:
  • stormwater inspections
  • construction administration
  • Planning Board submissions
  • Land survey field work
  • Land survey drafting
Acorn's current projects include:
  • floodplain and watershed restoration
  • municipal parks including artwork installations
  • affordable housing projects throughout the State
  • Rural & Urban Boundary Surveying
  • Construction Layout

This is an exciting opportunity to assist a small (but growing) engineering firm with a variety of tasks. We offer opportunities to grow professionally, volunteer, collaborate on exciting projects and develop lasting relationships both inside and outside of our firm. We look to empower our employees and provide them with the tools to be successful. Please note that this is not a hybrid position and requires the selected candidate to be in‑person, five days a week, based in our Portland office.

Capabilities

and Credentials
  • No prior experience required
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions, to perform tasks independently and to produce neat and accurate reports
  • Commitment to working with integrity and in an ethical manner
  • Ability to maintain safe work practices in a fast‑paced work environment
  • Dependable and willing to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and perform physical tasks
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, & HydroCAD
  • Strong ability to multi‑task
  • Basic knowledge of CAD, other Engineering/Technical skills preferred
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of civil drawings, construction processes and construction codes preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
