Come work with senior-level professionals at an established A/E firm that value employee input and collaboration. Burgess & Niple is looking for a 2026 summer Bridge Inspection Intern to join our team in Portland.

Bridge Inspection Intern Responsibilities
  • Assist Professional Engineers, Engineers‑In‑Training, and Bridge Inspectors around the U.S. with in-service bridge inspection and bridge assessment/evaluation projects.
  • Responsible for taking accurate measures, photos and documenting conditions found in the field.
  • Data entry and report preparation of conditions found in the field.
  • Review of load ratings of bridges and culverts.
  • Prepare drawings, sketches and schematics in Microstation or AutoCAD.
Skills & Qualifications
  • A current Junior or Senior level Civil Engineering student at an ABET‑accredited bachelor’s degree program with structural focus and strong academic standing
  • Passion for structures, love of bridges a plus.
  • Desire to work outside regardless of weather conditions.
  • Ability and desire to climb bridge structures and work at height.
  • Ability to withstand high levels of physical exertion including walking, climbing, bending, carrying, and lifting up to 30 lbs. of equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 40%) throughout the U.S.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable driving history is a must.
  • Microsoft Office and AutoCAD and/or Microstation proficiency required; AASHTOWare BrM experience a plus.

Travel arrangements to and from work assignments outside the Portland area including airfare, hotel, and meals are reimbursed.

Local housing and transportation to/from the Portland office is the responsibility of the intern.
