Senior Public Works Inspector (Bureau of Environmental Services, Materials Testing Lab, Engineering Services Group)
The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seeking a Senior Public Works Inspector to perform on‑site inspections during construction, ensuring structural components comply with contract plans and specifications for public works projects such as water or wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, and other structures.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect materials, installation, fabrication, erection, or placement of components and connections to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and standards.
- Attend project preparation, design reviews, and pre‐construction conferences.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents for complex public works projects.
- Maintain working relationships and coordinate with project stakeholders.
- Work independently on multiple construction projects under general supervision of a supervising engineer.
- Collaborate with other public works inspectors, construction managers, technicians, and design staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Additional Requirements:
- A valid State driver’s license.
- International Code Council (ICC) Certified Special Inspector in at least one of the following areas at the time of hire:
- Reinforced concrete (prior requirement of ACI 1 laboratory certification).
- Structural steel and bolting.
- Structural masonry.
- Structural steel welding.
- Ability to obtain a special inspection license for Proprietary anchors, Spray‑applied fireproofing, and Structural Wood.

- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
