A leading integrated A/E design firm is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to grow and lead their electrical engineering practice in Portland. This is a senior leadership role spanning business development, project delivery, people management, and technical oversight. Ideal for a seasoned electrical engineer ready to make a significant market impact in the Pacific Northwest.
Your RoleYou will drive strategic growth of the electrical engineering practice, lead high-complexity building projects, manage a team of engineers and designers, and serve as a key client-facing leader. You will own business development, quality control, financial performance, and technical direction for the group.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development (approx. 20%)
- Lead business development and marketing efforts for the electrical practice in the PNW
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms
- Develop proposals, presentations, and participate in strategic industry events
- Contribute to annual business planning and revenue growth objectives
People and Practice Management (approx. 20%)
- Hire, develop, and retain a team of electrical engineers, designers, and production staff
- Forecast staffing needs based on workload and project pipeline
- Hold the team accountable for technical excellence and delivery standards
- Manage financial performance and QC processes for the group
Project Delivery (approx. 50%)
- Lead and deliver complex, high-value building projects from design through construction documents
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction across multiple concurrent projects
- Act as QC reviewer on electrical engineering projects
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and other design disciplines
Technical Leadership (approx. 10%)
- Serve as lead electrical engineer and internal technical expert
- Perform power system studies including short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies
- Develop basis-of-design narratives, specifications, cost estimates, and calculations
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to staff development programs
- Stay current on industry codes, standards, and emerging technologies
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 15+ years of related professional experience in the A/E industry
- Oregon PE license required (or ability to obtain)
- Proven business development track record in the A/E space
- Strong knowledge of building electrical systems, applicable codes, and federal project experience
- Experience with Design-Build, Design-Assist, and IPD delivery methods
- Excellent communication and client management skills
- LEED AP and PMP/CCM a plus
- Valid driver's license required
