Job DescriptionCAD Drafter
Job SummaryThe CAD Drafter is responsible for creating and maintaining precise technical drawings and documentation that support the repair, redesign, and manufacturing of engineered equipment. This role collaborates closely with Engineers, Estimators, and Production Managers to translate concepts, field measurements, and specifications into detailed drawings that meet industry standards and internal requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, modify, and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for machining, fabrication, and equipment repair
- Interpret engineering sketches, field data, specifications, and calculations to produce accurate technical drawings
- Create drawings to support manufacturing, reverse engineering, and refurbishment projects
- Maintain drawing revisions, title blocks, and document control in accordance with company standards
- Ensure all drawings comply with applicable codes, standards, tolerances, and best practices
- Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and shop production teams to resolve design and manufacturability issues
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Manage and archive drawing files within the company’s document management system
- Support continuous improvement efforts in drafting standards and processes
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design, or a related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor, or similar platforms
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Experience in mechanical drafting, particularly within machining, repair, or heavy industrial environments
- Familiarity with GD&T and industry standards such as ASME or ISO
- Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, or equipment repair operations
- Working knowledge of ERP or PDM systems
- Exposure to reverse engineering or field-to-print workflows
- Strong technical drawing and spatial visualization skills
- Effective time management and ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Problem‑solving mindset with a collaborative approach
- Thorough understanding of revision control and documentation practices
- Primarily office‑based with regular interaction on the shop floor
- Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments, including noise and heavy equipment
- May include site visits for field measurements or project support
