Job Description
A leading design-build mechanical contractor is hiring a Fire Protection Design Manager to lead and grow its Fire Protection division in Portland, OR. This is a highly specialized, senior-level role responsible for overseeing fire sprinkler design while also managing projects and mentoring a team of designers. This person will act as both a technical expert and leader, supporting complex projects from pre-construction through execution.
The ideal candidate has deep experience in fire sprinkler system design, has led teams or large projects, and can operate in a fast-paced, problem-solving environment. This role supports a wide range of project types including data centers, healthcare facilities, and high-rise commercial buildings.

- 10+ years of experience in fire sprinkler / fire protection design
- Strong background in both design and project management
- Experience working on complex projects (e.g., high-rise, data centers, healthcare, large commercial builds)
- NICET Level III or IV in Water-Based Systems Layout
- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes (13, 13R, 14, 20)
- Experience overseeing design teams or managing design workflows
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and fire protection design tools (HydraCAD, Auto Sprink, etc.)
- Ability to lead projects and teams simultaneously
- Experience with Revit / BIM (or ability to support/teach Revit-based design processes)
- Design-build or mechanical contracting experience
- Experience supporting pre-construction or estimating phases
- Experience mentoring junior designers
