Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Architectural Historian Intern to be based in the Portland, Oregon office. This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026. Internships at AECOM provide students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real‑world impact. Interns work with cutting‑edge technology, learn industry’s best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm.

Responsibilities
  • Research and documentation of historical properties, report preparation and other duties as assigned.
  • A variety of individual and group tasks.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate travel for surveys of historical properties and research at repositories.
  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands‑on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well‑rounded learning experience within their field of study.
  • Intern 1 – completion of first year of qualified study.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or a related discipline and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MA or MS in Architectural History, History, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the larger cultural resources team.
  • Excellent proactive communication skills in terms of responsiveness, detailed assessments, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and excellent technical writing skills.
  • Self‑motivated, driven, hardworking, and accountable.
  • CAD and/or GIS skills.
Additional Information
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes office work in Portland, Oregon. The selected candidate must be available to work in Portland, Oregon on a scheduled basis.
