Are you ready to make a real impact in the world of engineering? At Portland General Electric, we’re looking for top‑tier talent to take on an exciting role that combines innovation, hands‑on experience, and the opportunity to drive positive change. As a Senior level Power Plant Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be the driving force behind our mission. Your expertise will extend to the very heart of our operations, from the intense combustion turbines to the intricate steam turbine systems.
YourMission:
Elevate Engineering Excellence
You’re not just another cog in the wheel. You’re the visionary behind the engineering marvels that power our world. Here’s what you can expect:
- Forge the Future: In this role, you won’t just be an engineer; you’ll be a visionary, an innovator, and a change‑maker. You’ll plan, design, and orchestrate the maintenance of thermal power plant systems, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency. Your work will blaze a trail in the industry, establishing new standards and procedures that create cost‑effective, sustainable solutions.
- Power the World: You’ll be at the forefront of planning, designing, and maintaining thermal power plant systems and components, impacting the global energy landscape.
- Lead with Innovation: We’re committed to pushing the envelope. Expect to pioneer new standards and procedures, creating cost‑effective solutions that shape the industry.
- Hands‑On Involvement: You’ll provide on‑site engineering support (typically a day trip, sometimes longer during outage season or forced outage) and ensure our generation assets adhere to the highest industry standards, codes, and regulations. With a focus on combustion and steam turbine engineering, you’ll lead major maintenance projects and component upgrades, shape specifications, coordinate fabrication, and oversee all life‑cycle stages from installation to operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Unleash Your Expertise: Specializing in combustion and steam turbine engineering, you’ll develop specifications, coordinate fabrication, and drive the success of critical systems.
- Quality Matters: Your work will be the cornerstone of maintaining and elevating quality levels and industry standards. You’ll ensure excellence is the norm, not the exception.
- Always Learning: We’re not just addressing today’s problems, but the future as well. Continue to grow and develop through continuing education, professional licensure or certification, industry conferences, and further education.
- Engineering Standards: Maintain currency in state‑of‑the‑art engineering practices and provide guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues as requested. Utilize thorough understanding and interpretation of applicable codes (e.g., ASME B31.1 Power Piping, ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code, ANSI, NFPA codes and standards) and serve as a resource, providing guidance to other engineers.
- Engineering Production: Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multi‑project environments; coordinate multi‑discipline activity. Analyze and recommend design enhancements to improve operation, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of PGE’s generating resources. Review calculations completed by other engineers; support root‑cause analyses; prepare reports and design packages; investigate and analyze complex system construction, maintenance, and operational problems; develop solutions and initiate corrective actions; provide design direction to engineers, technicians, draftsmen, and designers.
- Project Coordination: Actively coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects,…
