Job Overview

Engineering Technician II – City of Portland. Full‑time.

Work Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm.

Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers and project leads in a variety of projects to improve and maintain the City of Portland's infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support on plan review, research, technical writing, map reading, and data query and management.
  • Conduct field inspections and investigations.
  • Use sophisticated computer software, database, GIS/mapping tools, and drafting tools to provide project/program support.
  • Provide explanations on policies and procedures to the public to achieve understanding, cooperation, and compliance with codes.
  • Produce a variety of technical materials, correspondence, documents, plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules and ensure quality control and compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and policies of a variety of projects and processes.
  • Work independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Work in an environment where the entire staff supports each other.
  • Work in the field performing design and data collection.
  • Collect and process data to create technical documents.
  • Use varied software to create technical documents.
  • Collaborate with a variety of City staff to create comprehensive designs.
Qualifications
  • Experience with engineering and/or architectural terminology and basic principles.
  • Experience in clearly presenting technical information in various forms including oral, written, and graphic.
  • Ability to coordinate small‑scale projects and/or provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders with knowledgeable, technical guidance and advice.
  • Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work in a goal‑oriented work environment.
  • Applicant must also possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
