Role Overview

The Engineering Technician II supports technical assignments of moderate to advanced difficulty in engineering, construction, and permit processing. The role is used in multiple bureaus with duties varying by position.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist engineers and project leads in projects to improve and maintain city infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support on plan review, research, technical writing, map reading, and data query and management.
  • Conduct field inspections and investigations.
  • Use sophisticated software, database, GIS/mapping tools, and drafting tools to support projects/programs.
  • Provide explanations on policies and procedures to the public to achieve understanding, cooperation, and compliance with codes.
  • Produce technical materials, correspondence, documents, plans, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules while ensuring quality control and compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.
  • Work in the field performing design and data collection for ADA ramp projects.
  • Collect and process data to create technical documents and collaborate with city staff to create comprehensive designs.
  • Support plan review and analysis, sewer system design, construction management, and system planning in the Environmental Services division.
Qualifications
  • Experience with engineering and/or architectural terminology and basic principles.
  • Experience presenting technical information in oral, written, and graphic forms.
  • Ability to coordinate small‑scale projects and provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders with technical guidance and advice.
  • Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work in a goal‑oriented work environment.
    • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
    • Physical ability to work outdoors and in field conditions.
    About the Division

    In the ADA Ramp Division of the Bureau of Transportation the role focuses on design of ADA ramps and access solutions for city assets. In the Bureau of Environmental Services the Engineer Technician II supports storm‑water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including plan review, design, construction management, and system planning.
