Position: Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Technician II

Position Overview

The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) seeks a CAD Technician II to perform advanced computer‑aided drafting assignments, creating maps, drawings, and construction plans for collection systems, green streets, surface water restoration projects, and treatment and pump systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced CAD work to create and modify engineering drawings and construction plans.
  • Update maps with completed project ("as‑built") information.
  • Plan and organize mapping, records, and CAD work; develop and implement standards and communicate project information to consultants.
  • Conduct quality assurance and peer review of plans, design drawings, and specifications prepared by bureau staff or outside consultants.
  • Research, interpret, and verify data; reconcile conflicting or missing information by reviewing records, maps, and performing field site visits.
  • Review and analyze engineering surveys and records for proper composition of construction drawings.
  • Assist engineers with research, field inspections, analysis, and verification of legal descriptions and other engineering support duties.
  • Perform additional CAD technician duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D software.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu software.
  • Ability to independently perform advanced CAD assignments with initiative and creativity.
  • Ability to perform detailed work thoroughly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform basic engineering computations.
  • Ability to prepare professional‑quality maps, plans, and records.
  • Education & Experience

    A typical qualification path includes graduation from high school, trade school, vocational school, or equivalent, supplemented by courses in engineering drafting and computer‑assisted drafting. The position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible engineering drafting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with a public utility or public infrastructure projects is preferred.

    Licenses & Certifications

    A valid state driver’s license is required.
