Industrial Engineer

The Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer leads equipment and process initiatives that enhance productivity, improve quality, and optimize the use of people, machines, materials, and information. This role focuses on process flow analysis, statistical data analysis and correlation, layout development, equipment evaluation, and cost analysis, while working closely with Engineering to establish and maintain manufacturing Bills of Material and product structures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement methods to increase productivity, maximize efficiency, and improve utilization of human capital, equipment, materials, and information across manufacturing operations.
  • Study product requirements and design manufacturing systems that meet performance, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Perform mathematical calculations to define manufacturing processes and evaluate the impact of product design changes on production methods and costs.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis to troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues, including material flow, production capacity, and facility layout or design.
  • Perform cost/benefit analyses for make-versus-buy decisions, equipment purchases, efficiency improvements, and facility re-layouts.
  • Review productivity and quality metrics on an ongoing basis, establish new key performance indicators (KPIs) when needed, and maintain existing KPIs.
  • Create and maintain process documentation to support consistent operations, training, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise technical documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, process guides, and other manufacturing documents.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to develop and implement comprehensive continuous improvement plans within the production facility.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders, set up and update manufacturing Bills of Material, and communicate engineering changes to suppliers and internal support staff.
  • Troubleshoot and provide ongoing support for manufacturing production issues, including designing or updating production fixtures and tooling.
  • Provide research support on technologies and strategic issues when required.
  • Use spreadsheets, reports, and analytical tools to determine optimal warehouse item locations and storage strategies.
  • Document, analyze, and recommend improvements to warehouse processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including creating and updating department procedures.
  • Lead and support process improvement studies and projects focused on throughput, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Evaluate and design equipment layouts for new product manufacturing, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable operations.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, or a similar field.
  • 5–10 years of related experience in an operations environment, preferably in an industrial manufacturing facility within the transportation or heavy equipment market.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement and manufacturing engineering.
  • Proficiency in equipment selection and equipment layout evaluation and design for new product manufacturing.
  • CAD software experience, including developing 3D solid models, blueprints, and technical schematics to support manufacturing, process improvement, and product development (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics, with proficiency in editing and generating technical drawings.
  • Strong skills in process flow analysis, data analysis, layout design, and cost analysis.
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to perform analysis, generate reports, and manipulate data for decision-making.
  • Knowledge of lean production system elements such as 5S, work standardization, cycle time, lean material flow, error proofing, and autonomous maintenance.
  • Self-driven approach with the ability to take initiative, prioritize work independently, and follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working against established goals and metrics, with the ability to track and report progress.
