Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Strategic Energy Management (SEM) Statistical Analyst to lead advanced Measurement & Verification (M&V) for commercial and institutional buildings. This role requires a strong understanding of building systems, energy use patterns, and how these factors influence whole building regression models. The ideal candidate combines technical depth in energy analytics with practical knowledge of building operations to drive accuracy, consistency, and innovation in our M&V processes.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Model Development & Analysis:
    Design, implement, and validate whole-building regression models for SEM program M&V. Analyze energy consumption data in the context of building systems and operational patterns to quantify savings and performance impacts. Perform pre- and post-modeling data review and manipulation to ensure accuracy and consistency in energy modeling efforts. Assist with advanced statistical analysis and benchmarking reporting to provide actionable insights to SEM teams.
  • Quality Assurance & Best Practices:
    Establish and maintain QC protocols for SEM modeling and reporting. Develop standardized methodologies aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Help develop and maintain standardized templates for energy modeling and program data to ensure efficient workflows across all SEM programs.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing:
    Provide training and guidance to internal teams on SEM modeling techniques and interpretation of results. Serve as a subject matter expert for statistical analysis, building energy systems, and M&V processes.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:
    Monitor emerging trends and tools in SEM and M&V analytics. Recommend enhancements to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of methods and processes. Collaborate with program managers, modelers, program participants to resolve technical issues and improve processes. Work closely with internal teams and occasionally interact with clients to gather data and clarify requirements.
  • Industry Standards, Best Practices, and Documentation:
    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEM and M&V policies, building technologies, and energy efficiency standards. Maintain clear documentation for modeling processes and templates to support consistency and knowledge sharing.
Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years in energy efficiency, SEM programs, or related analytics roles.
  • Proven experience with M&V methods and protocols (ASHRAE 14, IPMVP, ISO 50001, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate building system knowledge into statistical modeling.

Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas and Visual Basic; familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Julia, and Python is a plus.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (R, Python, SAS, or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, particularly when working with large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of regression modeling, uncertainty analysis, and time-series data.
  • Familiarity with building energy systems (HVAC, lighting, plug loads, controls) and their impacts on energy use patterns.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with utility programs and regulatory requirements preferred.
