Inside the Role
We are seeking a compliance engineer to join our team based in Portland. You will be part of a team that is responsible for ensuring that all our product sold in the US and internationally meets all the safety regulatory requirements for those markets. This requires an understanding of all the regulations, such as FMVSS, FMCSA and ADR, that affect motor vehicle safety.
You will become one of the few experts in the field of motor vehicle compliance working across multiple product lines and projects. You will work on the latest products being developed by Daimler, incorporating the latest technologies and be part of the future of transportation.

We Take Care of Our TeamPosition offers a salary range of $104,000 to $133,000 USD, pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience. You should be an outgoing individual who is solution‑orientated, has excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have the proven ability to accomplish tasks with the highest standards of ethics, and should have a proven track record of developing strong working relationships with employees and managers. You will work cross‑functionally across many different engineering fields ranging from chassis to mechatronics, to support the development of new projects.
You will be looked upon as a specialist and you will interact with engineers to explain certification and compliance requirements, including detailed specifications of how certification testing must be completed and documented. You will work in a team to gather documentation from suppliers, engineers and test to prove that our trucks meet all the regulatory requirements, and where required, submit certification material to regulators, or other such data to regulatory entities as required.
You will be challenged to dig deep into certain aspects of regulations to develop interpretation and provide an explanation of the regulations to engineers, managers and upper‑level management as required.
- BS/BA with 2‑4 years of relevant experience, or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or Engineering‑related, or Legal/Compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read, analyze, and summarize detailed regulatory language.
- Familiarity with heavy‑duty vehicles, or passenger cars, and the emission/safety standards that apply to them.
- Experience with DTNA internal IT systems/tools, plus an understanding of vehicle specifications.
