The Department of Community Services (DCS), Survey Section is looking for a full‑time Engineering Technician 2. The Multnomah County Survey Section restores and maintains Public Land Corners, reviews, files, and indexes work submitted by land surveyors, and provides survey support for capital improvement and other county projects. We seek an experienced survey technician to work in the field and the office, possessing exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
This position is an exceptional opportunity for a fully qualified professional proficient in performing surveying duties and able to supervise survey staff in the absence of the crew leader.
- Operate, adjust and maintain survey instruments and help train survey personnel in the use of equipment.
- Search and locate public land corners, check and reset public land corners as needed.
- Perform moderately complex survey computations to support projects.
- Set and verify survey monumentation related to plat checks and road legalization before entering it in the public record.
- Perform research, computations, review, and drafting support on public land corner and other projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Equivalent to an Associate degree from an accredited college with major coursework in engineering or surveying technology, construction management, or a related field.
- Two years of increasingly responsible experience in survey technology or civil engineering.
- Valid driver license.
- Land Surveying Intern/Land Surveyor‑in‑Training certification by the state of Oregon.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to problem‑solve collaboratively as part of a team or independently.
- Interpret and apply federal, state and local rules, laws, standards, regulations, and policies to assigned work.
