Overview

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent who can coordinate, plan, and supervise electrical work across projects, interacting with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. The Electrical Superintendent provides coordination, planning, and supervision to assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities within the electrical discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate work projects within the electrical scope of the building site.
  • Ensure high-quality installation of electrical portions of the project, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction.
  • Provide drawing, constructability, and submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, verifying material, equipment, and workmanship quality.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Superintendent on formwork selection, equipment sizing, site utilization, and development of project schedules and updates, including three-week look-ahead.
  • Ensure work teams have needed resources and support; supervise quality control of self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Manage the interface with personnel concerned with connecting the project power grid to the existing distribution system.
  • Supervise installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings, liaising between field engineers and contractors to ensure electrical components comply with drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure implementation of the Mortenson Project Quality Plan (PQP) and assist with development of project control logs, QC documentation, and electrical Integrated Work Instructions (IWIs).
  • Oversee electrical subcontractors, reviewing procurement of resources, methods, staffing, look-ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activities.
  • Work with engineering staff to ensure plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs are transmitted to subcontractors accurately and timely.
  • Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work on every project.
  • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, ensuring crews have resources and support.
  • Ensure implementation of Mortenson s Zero Injury Program.
  • Produce various reports, including sequences of operation for equipment energization and written methods of operation (MOPs).
  • Establish a teamwork environment with work direction and performance evaluations.
  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed; develop leadership potential through task assignments and growth opportunities.
  • Manage open shop and union issues; maintain relationships with visitors, including customers, architects, union representatives, and subcontractors; manage site work and logistics efficiently with a view toward continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience with high and medium voltage equipment and cable, installation of transmission/collection lines, and substation construction.
  • Minimum 15 years of supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards; strong safety practices.
  • Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methods.
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple project tasks; basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices.
  • Microsoft Office, project management, and relevant web application skills at an intermediate level.
  • Proven positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills; ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
  • Proficiency in installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cables; knowledge of testing methods (injection, hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble).
