In this role, you'll support the planning, design, and delivery of building mechanical systems for facilities such as treatment plants, operations buildings, laboratories, maintenance facilities, and other infrastructure-related projects. You'll gain hands-on experience designing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and utility systems while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and developing your technical expertise.
What You'll Do
As a Building Mechanical Engineer I, you will:
* Assist with the design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities.
* Support the design of plumbing systems, including potable water, drainage, and utility distribution systems.
* Assist with fire protection and life safety system design under the guidance of senior engineers.
* Perform engineering calculations for HVAC loads, ductwork sizing, piping systems, energy analysis, and plumbing system sizing.
* Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
* Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, and project team members to develop project solutions.
* Participate in equipment selection and vendor coordination activities.
* Conduct site visits, field investigations, and existing-condition assessments.
* Support construction-phase services, including reviewing submittals, responding to contractor questions, and assisting with field observations.
* Learn and apply industry standards and codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and local
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or related engineering discipline).
* 0-3 years of relevant engineering experience.
* Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
* Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and building systems design principles.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Must live within commutable distance from office location posted
Ideally you will also have
* Internship, co-op, or coursework related to building systems, HVAC design, plumbing, energy analysis, or infrastructure projects.
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software.
* Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.
* Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering projects through academic or internship experience.
