Structural Engineer
Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join their design team in a contract-to-hire opportunity. This position will play an integral role in the structural design of complex projects, performing structural analysis and design while working closely with Structural Leads, Engineers, Designers, and other disciplines.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in structural engineering fundamentals, experience with U.S. building codes and seismic design provisions, and the ability to understand how structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. Key Responsibilities- Perform conventional aspects of structural engineering analysis and design under general supervision.
- Plan and conduct work requiring independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Develop structural design concepts and complete analysis and design for assigned project scopes.
- Apply sound engineering judgment and problem-solving skills while seeking guidance when appropriate.
- Perform lateral analysis and design for wind and seismic forces in accordance with applicable building codes.
- Apply provisions of applicable U.S. building codes, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC.
- Coordinate structural requirements with designers to ensure accurate communication within design documents and models.
- Understand how structural design integrates with and impacts other engineering disciplines.
- Perform calculation checking of other engineers' work.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail and quality control, including checking your own work.
- Take ownership of assigned structural scopes and work to meet project schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Manage workload effectively, make and maintain commitments, and work in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner.
- Define project scope and develop an understanding of the level of effort required to complete assigned work.
- Identify potential scope changes and communicate them to the Structural Lead.
- Recognize when additional guidance or support is needed and proactively reach out to peers and senior engineers.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to designers, drafters, and less experienced engineers.
- Contribute to the advancement of structural workflows, systems, and tools while embracing emerging technologies.
- Develop an understanding of business trends and industry challenges affecting the structural engineering profession.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Engineer (PEng) license.
- Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience with U.S. building codes, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC.
- Experience with structural engineering analysis and design software.
- Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam.
- Experience designing and analyzing traditional steel and concrete structures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering or a Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Experience with semiconductor industrial or general industrial facilities.
- Experience leading small teams.
- Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
