Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop accurate low voltage estimates for structured cabling (Comm Scope and Panduit certified solutions), security and access control (Verkada), sound masking, and related systems
Perform detailed material and cable takeoffs from architectural, MEP, and low voltage construction drawings
Build bills of materials and develop accurate labor estimates, accounting for site conditions, pathway readiness, and project sequencing
On design-build pursuits, translate client intent and basis-of-design into a defensible scope, clearly documenting assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications to protect margin and reduce scope gaps Communicate directly with distributors and manufacturer representatives to confirm product availability, lead times, and current pricing, and to secure project registrations and discounts
Visit customer sites and attend pre-construction and walkthrough meetings during the specification and estimating phase as needed
Coordinate with the Engineering Manager and design/field teams to verify design feasibility and constructability before quotes are released
Lead detailed project handoffs once a quote is approved, informing project management and engineering of scope, assumptions, and specifications
Maintain estimating templates, labor units, and historical cost data to continuously improve quoting accuracy
Job Specifications/
Qualifications:
Experience estimating low voltage projects (structured cabling, security/access control, and/or audio visual) is highly desirable
Working knowledge of structured cabling systems and standards, ideally aligned toCommScope and/or Panduit certified solutions
Familiarity with IP-based security and access control platforms (Verkada preferred) is a plus Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents, including the low voltage divisions (Division 27 Communications and Division 28 Electronic Safety and Security)
Strong understanding of BICSI and ANSI/TIA standards, NEC, and local code requirements as they relate to low voltage installations
Advanced ability to foresee project challenges and produce accurate estimates of labor time and material cost
Experience with D-Tools or comparable estimating/quoting software is preferred
Experience with Blue Beam Revu or other PDF takeoff/markup software is preferred
Drafting or CAD background (AutoCAD or similar) is a strong plus for reviewing and redlining design intent
Experience installing, project managing, or drafting low voltage systems that informs how specifications and quoting impact a project is highly desirable
Strong math, organizational, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communication
Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure
Basic computer skills using the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
Must maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Education:
High school diploma required, some college preferred, related college degree and/or job specific experience strongly preferred
Physical Demands:
Basic lifting of items under 50 lbs, kneeling, standing for long periods, and working in different environmental conditions will be required
Work Environment:
Hyphn Operations Center, Design Studio, and various job sites as required. Mostly, in the Portland, OR area, some travel to other areas of Oregon or Washington may be required at times.
