About the Opportunity
Kanto is seeking a Principal Facilities & Manufacturing Systems Engineer to lead facility infrastructure, manufacturing systems, capital projects, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness at its Portland manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering projects involving manufacturing equipment, facility infrastructure, utilities, and process support systems.
- Manage project scope, budget, schedule, resources, risks, contractors, and technical deliverables.
- Lead equipment installation, integration, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness.
- Assess facility and utility readiness for new and modified manufacturing systems.
- Troubleshoot complex facility, equipment, and manufacturing system issues.
- Lead risk assessments including PHA, FMEA, JHA/JSA, and MOC.
- Support systems including process piping, fluid handling, filtration, UPW, wastewater, process gases, chemical distribution, HVAC, exhaust, BMS, PLC/SCADA, and cleanroom infrastructure.
- Develop SOPs, work instructions, engineering standards, startup/shutdown procedures, and maintenance documentation.
- Partner with Operations, Facilities, EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, and external contractors.
- Drive reliability, maintainability, standardization, and continuous improvement.
- Support environmental, health, safety, regulatory, permitting, and audit requirements.

Job Requirements What You'll Bring- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 8 years minimum experience in manufacturing, semiconductor, advanced technology, life sciences, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments.
- Proven experience leading complex engineering, infrastructure, capital, commissioning, or startup projects.
- Strong experience with facility systems, process utilities, and manufacturing infrastructure.
- Experience with risk assessment methodologies such as PHA, FMEA, JHA/JSA, or MOC.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Semiconductor or cleanroom manufacturing experience.
- Experience with UPW, hazardous chemical systems, process gases, scrubbed exhaust, wastewater, HVAC, process piping, PLC/SCADA, or industrial automation.
- Commissioning and qualification experience, including IQ/OQ/PQ.
- PE license.
- PMP certification.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
