HVAC Design Engineer
The Design Engineer position serves to assist the Sales Team with estimating, engineering, and mechanical design on commercial HVAC projects. They work alongside the Sales Team and customer within the Design/Build construction process from concept design through construction design and further support the Project Management team through construction. The Design Engineer may be called upon to represent the Hunter-Davisson for bid presentations and weekly design meetings.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
:
- Perform HVAC system design and engineering.
- Generate accurate estimates and proposals according to intended scope of work.
- Review project contracts as it relates to scope of work.
- Coordinate scope of work with subcontractors.
- Perform equipment selection. Request and review submittals.
- Assemble packages of plans and submittals for permit and construction.
- Submit plans for permits with a variety of jurisdictions.
- Coordinate and obtain seismic details from structural engineer when required.
- Obtain quotes when requested by sales.
- Maintain currency with Hunter-Davisson standards, HVAC systems and building codes.
- Maintain all applicable licenses and accreditations.
- Maintain the electronic project files on the Q-drive and initial population of the J-drive.
- Assist in developing standard construction details.
- Attend design development meetings.
- Provide field coordination and support as needed.
- Perform site visits at various stages of a project.
- Attend all company, office, and department meetings.
- Proactively engage in all aspects of company safety program.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:
- Ability to draft own design in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Knowledgeable of and able to apply current building, mechanical and energy code.
- Proficient in the use of computers. Programs include:
Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PDF writer such as Bluebeam. - Excellent communication and customer service skills with internal and external customers.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, project management, and organizational skills.
- Continuous self-improvement and proactive mindset.
- Willing to work in both a team setting as well as individually.
- Flexible, accommodating, and adaptable to constant change.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Occasionally climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other climbing devices.
- Ability to maintain focus while multi-tasking and continuously be aware of surroundings.
